ABU grading system

Nigerian University CGPA (5.0 Scale) is what ABU prints on most transcripts. The top band is A (5.00 points). A fail (F) usually counts as zero quality points until you pass the retake.

The math behind semester GPA and cumulative CGPA is the same across most universities — see our CGPA formula guide for a worked example. For broader planning tips, read the complete CGPA guide on the homepage.

Percentage conversion

Employers usually ask for CGPA on the 5.0 scale. Class of degree bands are listed in your student handbook.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate CGPA at ABU?
On Nigeria's Nigerian University CGPA (5.0 Scale), multiply each course's points by its unit load, add everything, and divide by total units. That is how ABU reports CGPA on most transcripts.
How do I convert ABU CGPA to percentage?
Many Nigerian employers ask for CGPA directly on a 5.0 scale. If a form still wants percentage, check your faculty handbook — there is no single national multiplier.
How do I combine semester GPAs into CGPA?
Weight each semester by its credit load: (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + …) ÷ total credits. CGPA mode on the calculator adds semester rows so you do not have to re-enter every subject.
What is the highest grade point on the ABU scale?
On Nigerian University CGPA (5.0 Scale), the ceiling is 5.00 quality points (A). Hitting that across every credit is rare — one failed lab can pull the average down until you clear it.
Is this ABU CGPA calculator free?
Yes. No account, no app install, and we do not upload your grades. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Who maintains this page?
My CGPA Calculator is run by students and alumni who got tired of generic CGPA widgets that ignore local scales. If you spot a wrong boundary for Ahmadu Bello University, use the contact form with a link to the official handbook — we fix scales in batches.
