What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your computer or phone when you visit a website. They help sites remember preferences, keep sessions secure, and measure traffic. Cookies cannot read your hard drive, run programs, or access grades you type into our calculators unless a site deliberately sends that data — My CGPA Calculator does not send calculator inputs to ad networks.
Session cookies expire when you close the browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them. First-party cookies are set by https://mycgpacalculator.net; third-party cookies are set by other domains (for example google.com for ads or analytics).
Effective date: August 1, 2026. Last updated: September 11, 2026.
Why My CGPA Calculator uses cookies and similar tech
- Make the site function (security, load balancing, remembering UI choices)
- Remember if you dismissed the cookie notice or enabled optional features
- Understand aggregated traffic (which calculators are popular, which pages error)
Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Required for basic operation. Blocking them may break some features (for example remembering that you closed a notice during the same session). These generally do not require consent in the EU/UK when used only for what you explicitly requested.
Functional / preference
Remember choices such as Pro calculator UI state stored locally. May use local storage rather than cookies.
Analytics
Help us see aggregated usage — page views, country-level traffic, device categories. We configure analytics to avoid collecting unnecessary identifiers where settings allow.
Cookie and storage overview
Exact names change when we update vendors. This table describes typical technologies as of the last updated date above:
| Name / provider | Purpose | Type | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| My CGPA Calculator cookie consent (local storage) | Remember that you accepted or dismissed the cookie banner | Preference | Up to 12 months |
| Calculator preferences (local storage) | Optional Pro UI settings on your device only | Functional | Until you clear site data |
| Google Analytics (_ga, _gid, etc.) — if enabled | Distinguish users for aggregated statistics | Analytics | Up to 24 months (vendor dependent) |
| Google Fonts | Load web fonts; Google may log IP address | Service | Session / vendor policy |
Local storage vs cookies
Some features use localStorage or sessionStorage in your browser instead of cookies. Like cookies, this data stays on your device. Clearing “site data” for https://mycgpacalculator.net removes it. We use local storage for calculator-related preferences and consent — not to upload your grades to our servers.
Other third-party cookies
Embedded content or future integrations (for example social share buttons if we add them) may set their own cookies. We minimise third-party scripts to what is needed to run the site. Review those providers' policies when you interact with them.
Cookie consent banner
Where required by law, we show a banner when you first visit, explaining cookies and linking to this policy. Accepting the banner records your choice in local storage so we do not nag you on every page. You can withdraw consent by clearing site data or using browser controls; non-essential cookies may then be blocked.
How to control cookies in your browser
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies may still allow you to use core calculators, but ads may be less relevant and some preferences may not persist.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers send “Do Not Track” (DNT) signals. Industry practice varies; we honour applicable legal requirements in regions with opt-out laws (for example certain US state regimes). Where Google or other partners offer consent modes, we configure them when technically feasible.
Updates to this Cookie Policy
We update this page when we add analytics tools, change ad partners, or adjust consent flows. Check the “Last updated” date at the top of the page.
