About the Kelaniya CGPA calculator

Public university north of Colombo — cumulative GPA on 4.0 scale. Pick your courses, enter credits, and let the table handle grade points — the same boundaries Kelaniya lists in its handbook. Need a different campus? Browse the country hub linked below for neighbouring universities.

How to use this calculator

  1. Start with the courses you are sure about; you can add or remove rows as you go.
  2. Double-check credit hours — a 2-credit lab and a 3-credit theory course should not be averaged like equal weights.
  3. The grading table on this page mirrors Sri Lanka 4.0. If a new handbook year changes boundaries, tell us via the contact form.
  4. Bookmark the page before exam season; it is faster than rebuilding the same spreadsheet every semester.

Kelaniya grading system

Sri Lankan University GPA (4.0) is what Kelaniya prints on most transcripts. The top band is A+ (4.00 points). A fail (F) usually counts as zero quality points until you pass the retake.

The math behind semester GPA and cumulative CGPA is the same across most universities — see our CGPA formula guide for a worked example. For broader planning tips, read the complete CGPA guide on the homepage.

Percentage conversion

Modern transcripts show 4.0 GPA. Older percentage-only marksheets need a separate conversion from the examinations branch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate CGPA at Kelaniya?
Multiply each Kelaniya course grade point by its credit hours, add the products, and divide by total credits. That weighted average is what appears on most University of Kelaniya transcripts under Sri Lankan University GPA (4.0).
How do I convert Kelaniya CGPA to percentage?
Modern transcripts show 4.0 GPA. Older percentage-only marksheets need a separate conversion from the examinations branch.
How do I combine semester GPAs into CGPA?
Weight each semester by its credit load: (SGPA₁ × credits₁ + SGPA₂ × credits₂ + …) ÷ total credits. CGPA mode on the calculator adds semester rows so you do not have to re-enter every subject.
What is the highest grade point on the Kelaniya scale?
On Sri Lankan University GPA (4.0), the ceiling is 4.00 quality points (A+). Hitting that across every credit is rare — one failed lab can pull the average down until you clear it.
Is this Kelaniya CGPA calculator free?
Yes. No account, no app install, and we do not upload your grades. Close the tab and the data is gone.
Who maintains this page?
My CGPA Calculator is run by students and alumni who got tired of generic CGPA widgets that ignore local scales. If you spot a wrong boundary for University of Kelaniya, use the contact form with a link to the official handbook — we fix scales in batches.
